Attention Stony Brook University Faculy and Staff: Applications for the second cycle of the President’s Fast Impact Fund (FIF) opened August 3, 2026. Open to all Stony Brook faculty and staff, this special initiative supports immediate-impact projects that can be launched quickly and deliver results within six to ten months.
The FIF provides awards of up to $300,000 focused on low‑investment, high‑reward initiatives that create visible, positive change. Examples of projects that would be considered include specialized equipment or technology acquisitions, pilot programs or proof‑of‑concept initiatives, targeted renovations or seed funding, among other opportunities.
All proposals must include a customized, high-level budget and be endorsed by the relevant vice president or dean with authority to implement the project. Applications for the August cycle will be available beginning August 3 with submissions due Friday, August 21 by 5 pm, ET. Tools that accelerate medical countermeasure screening and development are vital to improving human health – from enabling personalized medicine to responding to health security threats such as pandemics. To this end, BARDA, in partnership with the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS), part of the National Institutes of Health, has launched the new ImmuneChip+ program.
We aim to partner with innovators to support the development of advanced microphysiological systems / tissue chip platforms that integrate a component of the human immune system. The objective of the program is to develop a set of set of mature ImmuneChips, combining a previously validated model of a vital human tissue (e.g. lung, heart, kidney) with an immune system component, in a single platform that can be machine-manufactured and that includes multiple in-line sensors for long-term tissue monitoring. With this program, we aim to further enhance the usability of tissue chips and position them as useful tools in the drug development process and for personalized therapeutics.
The Life Sciences Innovation and Entrepreneurship (LiSIE) program at Stony Brook is looking to give students a jump-start in the bioscience industry. The program is a joint effort between the Department of Biomedical Engineering in the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences, the College of Business and the Center for Biotechnology. “From the lab to leadership”, the program aims to teach key business principles to life sciences students so they’re equipped to work in the business side of science.

The Center for Biotechnology will be co hosting a series of 6- 90 minute panel discussions with industry and government partners, focused on providing guidance and insight into how innovators can take their solution from the benchtop to the Biomedical Advanced Research & Development Authority (BARDA).
Each event will have its own specific focus, while contributing to a sequential flow for the series. Experts with specific backgrounds will provide an overview of key resources available to innovators to help fund and advance their solution from early through late stages of development, as well as provide guidance on how to navigate the funding opportunities within BARDA and BARDA DRIVe.
