Life Sciences Summit 2018: 10/24-10/25

The Center for Biotechnology’s annual Life Sciences Summit is an early-stage investor and business development conference for emerging companies and academic innovators. This year’s event will take place on October 24-25 at 10 on the Park at the Time Warner Center in New York City.

The objective of the meeting is to connect emerging companies with early-stage investors, business development professionals, and medical research foundations with the goal of advancing new innovations through clinical development. The robust, two-day program features:

Attention Stony Brook University Faculy and Staff: Applications for the second cycle of the President’s Fast Impact Fund (FIF) opened August 3, 2026. Open to all Stony Brook faculty and staff, this special initiative supports immediate-impact projects that can be launched quickly and deliver results within six to ten months.

The FIF provides awards of up to $300,000 focused on low‑investment, high‑reward initiatives that create visible, positive change. Examples of projects that would be considered include specialized equipment or technology acquisitions, pilot programs or proof‑of‑concept initiatives, targeted renovations or seed funding, among other opportunities.

All proposals must include a customized, high-level budget and be endorsed by the relevant vice president or dean with authority to implement the project. Applications for the August cycle will be available beginning August 3 with submissions due Friday, August 21 by 5 pm, ET. Please visit the Fast Impact Fund website for additional information and to submit an application.

"Biotechnology Enterprises - Finance & Operations" is one of the main pillars of the Advanced Graduate Certificate in Life Science Innovation and Entrepreneurship, designed to enhance student’s understanding of how biological sciences translate into new therapeutics, diagnostics and/or medical devices, and provided an introduction to the fundamental business and industry aspects of critical in leveraging technology platforms into biological sciences oriented start-up companies. The successful candidate can anticipate working closely with the Department of Biomedical Engineering as well as the Center for Biotechnology to ensure the course aligns with the certificate’s intent and the Center for Biotechnology’s objective of preparing students for careers in the biotechnology and life sciences industry.

The Center for Biotechnology was thrilled to help Stony Brook University’s Office for Research and Innovation (OR&I) organize their second Wolf Den event on February 12, which featured three CFB Affiliated biotechnology entrepreneurs: Eve McDavid, CEO and founder of Mission-Driven Tech, Raza Hassan, CTO and co-founder of IAMBIC and Christopher Ashdown, CEO and co-founder of Lahara Bio

Attendees heard from each of the featured innovators about various topics they have faced while launching and building their ventures. The speakers were also able to highlight how they have worked with and access the resources of Stony Brook University with support from the Center for Biotechnology.
