Applications are now open for the 12th BioREACH Award Program from the Center for Biotechnology, which provides $50,000 in translational research funding for Stony Brook faculty and postdoctoral researchers to generate the evidence needed to advance promising innovations to the next stage of development.
BioREACH funds milestone-driven studies and welcomes biomedical innovations as well as platforms, tools, computational technologies, and other enabling technologies with the potential to contribute to solutions addressing unmet needs in health.

The Center for Biotechnology (CfB) has helped advance some of Stony Brook University’s most impactful biomedical innovations, among them the yeast two-hybrid system, Xiaflex®, ReoPro®, Oracea®, and 3D virtual colonoscopy. The CfB has supported more than 475 faculty-led translational research projects and contributed to 306 license agreements generating $51 million in royalty returns to the University.

Join our team! The Center for Biotechnology is recruiting an Assistant Director for Technology and Business Development. The Asst. Director for Technology and Business Development will develop and help implement milestone driven commercialization strategies, and provide oversight to Commercialization Associates who have primary responsibility for conducting due diligence to guide and support Center for Biotechnology/LIBH “investments".
The incumbent will serve as the primary contact with
internal and external parties on issues related to research, technology
development and commercialization, and foster new collaborative relationships
leading to sponsored research agreements and possible strategic alliances with
external partners including bioscience companies and investors.

Kathera Bioscience Inc., a privately-held biotech startup was awarded a SBIR Fast Track grant with a value of up to $3,298,530 from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) for its dihydrofolate reductase (DHFR) program. Kathera Bioscience was founded by CFB Advisor and Long Island BIoMentor Initiative Mentor Dr. Stephen Parent.
Kathera is developing novel therapeutics to treat fungal infections, a major cause of human disease with an estimated 11.5 million annual life-threatening infections globally, resulting in more than 1.5 million deaths. [post_content] => BARDA is calling for biomedical innovations to tackle COVID-19 pandemic through two major solilications. EZ-BAA solicitations for funding up to $750K, and BAA (no funding limit).
Deadline for EZ-BAA submission is June 30th. Innovations are sought for multiple areas (.e. molecular assays, point-of-care diagnostics, vaccines, therapeutics, manufacturing platform, devices, ventilators.)
