Attention Stony Brook University Faculy and Staff: Applications for the second cycle of the President’s Fast Impact Fund (FIF) opened August 3, 2026. Open to all Stony Brook faculty and staff, this special initiative supports immediate-impact projects that can be launched quickly and deliver results within six to ten months.
The FIF provides awards of up to $300,000 focused on low‑investment, high‑reward initiatives that create visible, positive change. Examples of projects that would be considered include specialized equipment or technology acquisitions, pilot programs or proof‑of‑concept initiatives, targeted renovations or seed funding, among other opportunities.
All proposals must include a customized, high-level budget and be endorsed by the relevant vice president or dean with authority to implement the project. Applications for the August cycle will be available beginning August 3 with submissions due Friday, August 21 by 5 pm, ET. Please visit the Fast Impact Fund website for additional information and to submit an application.

[post_content] => On Monday, April 11, 2016 Stony Brook University launched its chapter of the National Academy of Inventors. With the launch, 30 university of faculty members will be inducted into that chapter's Hall of Fame, including Center for Biotechnology Director and Biomedical Engineering Chair, Dr. Clinton Rubin.
The NAI was founded in 2010 at the University of South Florida to recognize and encourage inventors who earn U.S. patents. The organization aims to enhance the visibility of university-based innovations and promote the societal benefits of technological and academic breakthroughs. Stony Brook joins more than 200 other NAI chapter members around the globe that will “foster research that leads to academic inventions and entrepreneurship from faculty and students,” while building “a culture of invention across all campus disciplines,” SBU said in a statement. Applications for the Center for Biotechnology's Fundamentals of the Bioscience Industry Program are open!
This innovative, one semester, evening program provides participants with the skills and knowledge they need to transition out of the academic lab into a professional position in the bioscience industry and an overall introduction to the technology commercialization process. The program is taught by industry professionals through lectures and interactive team projects. Students gain first-hand experience in the development of commercialization strategies around real intellectual property and business issues. This experiential learning process will shed light onto the expanded number of business roles to which scientific skills can be applied.
Created by the Center for Biotechnology, this program is targeted towards graduate students and postdocs seeking to facilitate commercial activities within their academic labs or enhance their knowledge of the commercial sector in order to transition into non-academic careers. Applications for the Health Innovation Hub: Life Science are open through February 24.
Springboard’s Health Innovation Hub: Life Science is a program for women-led life science and healthcare companies seeking growth funding and connections to experts and strategic partners for product development and expansion. Selected Hub companies are matched with a personal advisory team, tasked with providing a meaningful impact on the company’s next stage of growth. The program, while virtual, engages advisors and investors in a variety of in-person presentation sessions throughout the year and beyond.
Areas of focus for the program include (but are not limited to) drugs, therapeutics, diagnostics, medtech, and medical devices.
