Attention Stony Brook University Faculy and Staff: Applications for the second cycle of the President’s Fast Impact Fund (FIF) opened August 3, 2026. Open to all Stony Brook faculty and staff, this special initiative supports immediate-impact projects that can be launched quickly and deliver results within six to ten months.
The FIF provides awards of up to $300,000 focused on low‑investment, high‑reward initiatives that create visible, positive change. Examples of projects that would be considered include specialized equipment or technology acquisitions, pilot programs or proof‑of‑concept initiatives, targeted renovations or seed funding, among other opportunities.
All proposals must include a customized, high-level budget and be endorsed by the relevant vice president or dean with authority to implement the project. Applications for the August cycle will be available beginning August 3 with submissions due Friday, August 21 by 5 pm, ET. Please visit the Fast Impact Fund website for additional information and to submit an application.

Kathera Bioscience Inc., a privately-held biotech startup was awarded a SBIR Fast Track grant with a value of up to $3,298,530 from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) for its dihydrofolate reductase (DHFR) program. Kathera Bioscience was founded by CFB Advisor and Long Island BIoMentor Initiative Mentor Dr. Stephen Parent.
Kathera is developing novel therapeutics to treat fungal infections, a major cause of human disease with an estimated 11.5 million annual life-threatening infections globally, resulting in more than 1.5 million deaths. [post_content] => Traverse Biosciences announced today that it has received a $223,979 Phase I Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) award in partnership with the Feinstein Institute for Medical Research, part of the North Shore-LIJ Health System. Funding from the National Institute on Aging (NIA) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) will be used to evaluate the effectiveness of the company's lead drug candidate, TRB-N0224, for the treatment of osteoarthritis (OA). The research at the Feinstein Institute will be led by Daniel A. Grande, PhD, Director, Orthopaedic Research Laboratory, who will serve as principle investigator on the award in close collaboration with Traverse Biosciences.
