2016 Long Island Innovation Boot Camp

Taking place on two days over the course of two weeks at the beginning of March, the 2016 Long Island Innovation Boot Camp/Pre-Seed Workshop was held at the Long Island High Technology Incubator. The annual event, co-organized by the CFB and Stony Brook Universities Clean Energy Business Incubator Program (CEBIP), featured eight technologies emerging from the region’s top research institutions. The event rallies community talent and resources to investigate and transform commercially promising technologies into pre-seed stage companies.

Dr. Carol Carter, a molecular Genetics and Microbiology Profession at Stony Brook University, participated in the boot camp this year. About her experience in the boot camp, she noted to Innovate Long Island, “It’s given me an education of a type I’ve not gotten before, in all of my training. Piraye Yurttas Beim, co-founder and CEO of Celmatix was named to “The Fortune Entrepreneurs List”. Depymed Received $100k from Accelerate Long Island & LIETF

DepYmed, a joint venture of Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory and New York City-based biotech Ohr Pharmaceutical led by Andreas Grill, has received $100,000 from Accelerate Long Island and the Long Island Emerging Technologies Fund. Andreas Grill has served as a BioEntrepreneur-in-Residence for the center for Biotechnology and DepYmed is developing a new drug called Trodusquemine that it hopes will one day treat HER2-positive breast cancer, an aggressive form of the disease. QB Sonic Wins SBA InnovateHER Competition

Stony Brook-based technology startup, QB Sonic, is the local winner of the federal Small Business Administration’s InnovateHER competition, a national contest for companies seeking to improve the lives of women and families. Traverse Biosciences Announces Issuance of U.S. Patent

Traverse Biosciences has announced that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has granted U.S. Patent No. 9,187,406 entitled, “Curcumin Analogues as Zinc Chelators and Their Uses,” which the company has exclusively licensed from the Research Foundation for the State University of New York (RF/SUNY). The issued patent includes claims that cover the composition of matter of the company’s proprietary library of chemically-modified curcumins, including its lead drug candidate, TRB-N0224.
