Applications are now open for the 12th BioREACH Award Program from the Center for Biotechnology, which provides $50,000 in translational research funding for Stony Brook faculty and postdoctoral researchers to generate the evidence needed to advance promising innovations to the next stage of development.
BioREACH funds milestone-driven studies and welcomes biomedical innovations as well as platforms, tools, computational technologies, and other enabling technologies with the potential to contribute to solutions addressing unmet needs in health.

The Center for Biotechnology (CfB) has helped advance some of Stony Brook University’s most impactful biomedical innovations, among them the yeast two-hybrid system, Xiaflex®, ReoPro®, Oracea®, and 3D virtual colonoscopy. The CfB has supported more than 475 faculty-led translational research projects and contributed to 306 license agreements generating $51 million in royalty returns to the University.

[post_content] => The Center for Biotechnology and Stony Brook University received two $25,000 grants towards their BioEntrepreneur-in-Residence (B-EIR) Program. The State University of New York and The Research Foundation for SUNY (RF), and the Suffolk County Economic Development Corporation each awarded $25,000 to further the pilot B-EIR program the Center has launched in order to increase the number, quality and success of new ventures formed to commercialize early-stage, promising biomedical technologies invented at Stony Brook University. This funding is in addition to the more than $500,000 already raised around the initiative.

[post_content] => The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) has announced the 5th “$100,000 for Start a SUD Startup” Challenge. The Challenge goal is to support research ideas that would further an understanding of Substance Use Disorders (SUD) and that are intended to be the foundation for the development of successful new startups. NIDA expects that the contest will enable participants to test the premise that their research idea can be fostered into a biotech startup, and that eventually the newly created startups will contribute to the pool of innovative small business companies that can successfully compete for NIDA’s Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) funding.
The Challenge will offer up to ten awards of $10,000 each and technical expertise and mentoring from NIDA scientific research entrepreneurship experts. The Challenge total purse is up to $100,000.
Submission Due Date: May 26, 2020, 5:00 p.m. ET.
Judging Period: May 27, 2020 to June 15, 2020.
Winners Announced: June 22, 2020.

[post_content] => BARDA is calling for biomedical innovations to tackle COVID-19 pandemic through two major solilications. EZ-BAA solicitations for funding up to $750K, and BAA (no funding limit).
Deadline for EZ-BAA submission is June 30th. Innovations are sought for multiple areas (.e. molecular assays, point-of-care diagnostics, vaccines, therapeutics, manufacturing platform, devices, ventilators.)
