NYS Governor Hochul Announces $300M Investment in SUNY at Stony Brook’s Quantum Research and Innovation Hub

New York State is making a major investment in the future of technology with a $300 million commitment to Stony Brook University to establish a first-of-its-kind Quantum Research and Innovation Hub. Building on Stony Brook’s leadership as home to the nation’s largest quantum network, the new hub will advance research and education in quantum communication, computing, and networking—critical components for developing a faster, smarter, and more secure internet. The 150,000-square-foot facility, expected to open in 2029, will bring together a new Quantum Institute, a hybrid Quantum Data Center, and a Quantum Education Consortium to integrate research, computing, and workforce development.
This investment is part of a broader push by New York State to strengthen its position as a global leader in emerging technologies. By expanding research capacity and cultivating top talent, the hub aims to accelerate breakthroughs that address complex societal challenges while driving economic growth across the region. With strong support from state leadership and continued funding for higher education, Stony Brook is poised to become a premier global center for quantum science and technology.

[post_content] => Taking place on two days over the course of two weeks at the beginning of March, the 2016 Long Island Innovation Boot Camp/Pre-Seed Workshop was held at the Long Island High Technology Incubator. The annual event, co-organized by the CFB and Stony Brook Universities Clean Energy Business Incubator Program (CEBIP), featured eight technologies emerging from the region’s top research institutions. The event rallies community talent and resources to investigate and transform commercially promising technologies into pre-seed stage companies.
Dr. Carol Carter, a molecular Genetics and Microbiology Profession at Stony Brook University, participated in the boot camp this year. About her experience in the boot camp, she noted to Innovate Long Island, “It’s given me an education of a type I’ve not gotten before, in all of my training. The Center for Biotechnology was thrilled to help Stony Brook University’s Office for Research and Innovation (OR&I) organize their second Wolf Den event on February 12, which featured three CFB Affiliated biotechnology entrepreneurs: Eve McDavid, CEO and founder of Mission-Driven Tech, Raza Hassan, CTO and co-founder of IAMBIC and Christopher Ashdown, CEO and co-founder of Lahara Bio
Attendees heard from each of the featured innovators about various topics they have faced while launching and building their ventures. The speakers were also able to highlight how they have worked with and access the resources of Stony Brook University with support from the Center for Biotechnology.
