Applications are now open for the 12th BioREACH Award Program from the Center for Biotechnology, which provides $50,000 in translational research funding for Stony Brook faculty and postdoctoral researchers to generate the evidence needed to advance promising innovations to the next stage of development.
BioREACH funds milestone-driven studies and welcomes biomedical innovations as well as platforms, tools, computational technologies, and other enabling technologies with the potential to contribute to solutions addressing unmet needs in health.
Application deadline: October 29, 2026, 5:00pm ET

The Center for Biotechnology (CfB) has helped advance some of Stony Brook University’s most impactful biomedical innovations, among them the yeast two-hybrid system, Xiaflex®, ReoPro®, Oracea®, and 3D virtual colonoscopy. The CfB has supported more than 475 faculty-led translational research projects and contributed to 306 license agreements generating $51 million in royalty returns to the University.

Join the Center for Biotechnology, Farrell Fritz, P.C.and the Long Island High Technology Incubator for a workshop led by Alon Kapen, JD, Partner at Farrell Fritz, P.C. and Chair of its Emerging Companies and Venture Capital practice group. Mr. Kapen will discuss different types of equity crowdfunding available and key considerations for companies contemplating a crowdfunding offering.
Topics will include costs, benefits, and drawbacks of different types of crowdfunding, including accredited crowdfunding under Rule 506(c) of Regulation D; non-accredited crowdfunding under Title III of the JOBS Act and Regulation Crowdfunding; and “mini” public offerings under “Regulation A+”.

[post_content] => Chronus Pharmaceuticals has announced that it has received a $299,172 Phase I Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) award in partnership with the Department of Chemistry at Stony Brook University.
Funding from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) will be used to establish feasibility of an antibody diagnostic for detecting childhood tuberculosis. The research will be lead by LIBH Researcher Nicole S. Sampson, PhD in the Department of Chemistry, who will serve as principle investigator on the award and work in close collaboration with Chronus Pharmaceuticals.
