Attention Stony Brook University Faculy and Staff: Applications for the second cycle of the President’s Fast Impact Fund (FIF) opened August 3, 2026. Open to all Stony Brook faculty and staff, this special initiative supports immediate-impact projects that can be launched quickly and deliver results within six to ten months.
The FIF provides awards of up to $300,000 focused on low‑investment, high‑reward initiatives that create visible, positive change. Examples of projects that would be considered include specialized equipment or technology acquisitions, pilot programs or proof‑of‑concept initiatives, targeted renovations or seed funding, among other opportunities.
All proposals must include a customized, high-level budget and be endorsed by the relevant vice president or dean with authority to implement the project. Applications for the August cycle will be available beginning August 3 with submissions due Friday, August 21 by 5 pm, ET. Please visit the Fast Impact Fund website for additional information and to submit an application.

DepYmed, Inc., has announced a new financing led by Topspin Fund, L.P. and additional investors for a total of $8.3 million.
Led by former Center for Biotech BioEntrepreneur-in-Residence Andreas Grill, DepYmed is a pharmaceutical company focused on a novel phosphatase inhibition technology platform with potential therapeutic application across multiple different disease including Rett Syndrome, Wilson Disease and Breast Cancer.

[post_content] => Rosyln Heights, NY-based Ortek Therapeutics announced that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has awarded a patent for new methods to use new compositions to prevent or treat drug-resistant bacteria and suppress body odor.
U.S. Patent 9,370,476, was issued to The Research Foundation of State University of New York, an Ortek licensing partner, and is directed to topical application of a zinc and arginine-based composition. Ortek holds exclusive international licensing rights to this patent, which was developed at Stony Brook University. Ortek has a long-standing relationship with Israel Kleinberg DDS, PhD, DSc, who led the development of this new technology and is the Director of the Division of Translational Oral Biology at Stony Brook University.
