Applications are now open for the 12th BioREACH Award Program from the Center for Biotechnology, which provides $50,000 in translational research funding for Stony Brook faculty and postdoctoral researchers to generate the evidence needed to advance promising innovations to the next stage of development.
BioREACH funds milestone-driven studies and welcomes biomedical innovations as well as platforms, tools, computational technologies, and other enabling technologies with the potential to contribute to solutions addressing unmet needs in health.
Application deadline: October 29, 2026, 5:00pm ET

The Center for Biotechnology (CfB) has helped advance some of Stony Brook University’s most impactful biomedical innovations, among them the yeast two-hybrid system, Xiaflex®, ReoPro®, Oracea®, and 3D virtual colonoscopy. The CfB has supported more than 475 faculty-led translational research projects and contributed to 306 license agreements generating $51 million in royalty returns to the University.

The Long Island Manufacturing Extension Partnership (LIMEP) has a new Manufacturing Grant Opportunity for modernization and equipment needs.
Empire State Development (ESD) has a new grant opportunity to expand manufacturing businesses. Applications are due July 31st by 4PM for the ESD Manufacturing Grant program. Assisting small Long Island manufacturing companies is a top priority of ESD and the regional MEP. The Center for Biotechnology was thrilled to help Stony Brook University’s Office for Research and Innovation (OR&I) organize their second Wolf Den event on February 12, which featured three CFB Affiliated biotechnology entrepreneurs: Eve McDavid, CEO and founder of Mission-Driven Tech, Raza Hassan, CTO and co-founder of IAMBIC and Christopher Ashdown, CEO and co-founder of Lahara Bio
Attendees heard from each of the featured innovators about various topics they have faced while launching and building their ventures. The speakers were also able to highlight how they have worked with and access the resources of Stony Brook University with support from the Center for Biotechnology.
The goal of the event is to help build the innovation and entrepreneurial community not only at Stony Brook University but in the region as well. Read the full write up of the event on SBU News.
