[post_content] => Due to a few technical difficulties, and to accommodate new and/or incoming awardees, NIH is extending the deadline to apply to their NIH Commercialization Accelerator Program (NIH CAP).
The new deadline is 11:59 p.m. PDT (Pacific) FRIDAY, September 13, 2019.
This is a cost free* customized commercialization (market readiness/growth) program. For 16 years, CAP has provided customized technical/business assistance to companies at different stages, and has a notable track record: 50 acquisitions (including companies acquired by Sony, Zoll, Bruker, BioMarin, Illumina, Takeda, Google, Roche, etc.), 10 IPOs, and more than $1B in 3rd party funding raised.
The program features:
- world-class guidance from experienced domain professionals, including industry and technical specialists affiliated with Bayer Healthcare, Qualcomm, Baxter, Pfizer, Genetech, McKesson, Medtronic, CMS, Life Technology, etc.
- Feedback and interaction from a range of stakeholders in the life sciences marketplace

[post_content] => MicroRid Technologies Inc. has received a five year, $4 million, Peer Reviewed Medical Research Program (PRMRP) Technology/Therapeutic Development Award, which is administered by the Department of Defense office of Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs (CDMRP).
The company, founded by Center for Biotechnology BioEntrepreneur-in-Residence Dr. Brian McCarthy and Stony Brook University Renaissance School of Medicine Professor Maurizio Del Poeta, is researching the development of small-molecule anti-fungal drugs.The Center for Biotechnology is also supporting company technology development efforts via our
REACH program.
The company will work with Stony Brook University on aspects of the project, engaging with Dr. Del Poeta as well as Dr. Iwo Ojim from the department of Chemisty. The goal of the project, titled “The Research and Development of New Antifungals” is to develop / optimize compounds that inhibit fungal specific targets and perform preclinical development that will help prepare the company for their Investigational New Drug filing with the FDA.

CFB Director of Operations, Diane Fabel, has been inducted into the
Stony Brook University Chapter of the National Academy of Inventors (NAI-SBU) as an honorary member. At the chapter’s Annual Meeting on May 1, 2017, 16 new members and 2 honorary members were inducted into the Academy. Ms. Fabel and her fellow inductees join 30 stony brook faculty members, including CFB Director Clinton Rubin, who were inducted as inaugural members to the SBU-NAI in 2016.
