Applications are now open for the 12th BioREACH Award Program from the Center for Biotechnology, which provides $50,000 in translational research funding for Stony Brook faculty and postdoctoral researchers to generate the evidence needed to advance promising innovations to the next stage of development.



BioREACH funds milestone-driven studies and welcomes biomedical innovations as well as platforms, tools, computational technologies, and other enabling technologies with the potential to contribute to solutions addressing unmet needs in health.



Application deadline: October 29, 2026, 5:00pm ET

The Center for Biotechnology (CfB) has helped advance some of Stony Brook University’s most impactful biomedical innovations, among them the yeast two-hybrid system, Xiaflex®, ReoPro®, Oracea®, and 3D virtual colonoscopy. The CfB has supported more than 475 faculty-led translational research projects and contributed to 306 license agreements generating $51 million in royalty returns to the University.

HHS SBIR and STTR Omnibus grant solicitations permit researcher-initiated topics around health, medicine and life science to be submitted for funding consideration. With any specific idea, you should speak directly with a HHS SBIR/STTR program manager at least a month BEFORE the deadline to gauge their interest.

You can find the HHS SBIR/STTR Omnibus Solicitations, and all of other SBIR/STTR solicitations on the Funding page of the SBIR/STTR Website: https://sbir.nih.gov/funding.

Be sure to also check the targeted funding announcements page, https://sbir.nih.gov/funding/individual-announcements. NIH Institutes and Centers will issue targeted SBIR/STTR grant solicitations around specific, high-priority research areas.

                    [post_content] => Due to a few technical difficulties, and to accommodate new and/or incoming awardees, NIH is extending the deadline to apply to their NIH Commercialization Accelerator Program (NIH CAP).

The new deadline is 11:59 p.m. PDT (Pacific) FRIDAY, September 13, 2019.

This is a cost free* customized commercialization (market readiness/growth) program. For 16 years, CAP has provided customized technical/business assistance to companies at different stages, and has a notable track record: 50 acquisitions (including companies acquired by Sony, Zoll, Bruker, BioMarin, Illumina, Takeda, Google, Roche, etc.), 10 IPOs, and more than $1B in 3rd party funding raised.
