Long Island New York I-Corps Hub – Innovation Bootcamp Spring 2023 Program

This Innovation Bootcamp Program will teach scientists, inventors and first-time entrepreneurs the Lean Launchpad Methodology – Customer Discovery through 20 interviews, Agile Development roadmapping, and the Business Model Canvas – specifically Value Propositions and Customer Segments

Kickoff Session: Tuesday, February 14, 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM (Online)
Mid Session: Friday, February 14, 9:15 AM – 4:00 PM (Online) and
Finale Session: Friday, March 3, 9:15 AM – 3:00 PM (Room 109, R&D Park Research and Support Services)

Teams of 1+ faculty, staff, etc. from any university, national lab, or community teams with an Innovation or Research Idea should be STEAM focused are encouraged to apply. Must be able to attend all 3 scheduled workshops and dedicate time outside of the sessions to do customer discovery interviews

Wins NIH Pitch Competition

Christopher Ashdown, a Stony Brook University MD/PhD student and alumnus of the CFB’s Fundamentals of the Bioscience Industry Program, has won the Innovator Showcase Pitch Event at the 2022 Proof of Concept Network (POCN) Annual Meeting hosted by National Institutes of Health SEED (Small business Education and Entrepreneurial Development). Chris pitched on behalf of Lahara Bio.

Chris advanced through multiple rounds of pitching and was selected to present at the POCN Innovator Showcase with two other exceptional POCN innovators. Congratulations Chris!

CFB Advisor Named Top 25 Women In Biotech

CFB Advisor and Long Island BioMentor Initiative Founding Mentor Kara Canon was names one of the Top 25 Women Leaders in Biotechnology of 2022 according to The Healthcare Technology Report. Kara Cannon is Chief Operating Officer of Enzo Biochem, Inc and has been working with this leading biosciences and diagnostics company for over 12 years. She has been an advisor to the Center for Biotechnology and in 2016 became one of the founding mentors of the Long Island BioMentor Initiative. The I-Corps™ at NIH Program helps current Phase I SBIR/STTR awardees from the NIH and CDC transition from researcher to entrepreneur.

This 8.5-week training program provides practical guidance from experienced industry professionals that will move you forward on your path toward commercialization. Past participants have written strong SBIR/STTR Phase II applications, won partnerships and investments, and built vast networks in the field.

Apply for the first cohort of FY2023 through the NIH ASSIST platform by 5:00 p.m. your local time on Wednesday, November 16.
