$500k in Funding For Biotech Startups Announced

The Accelerate Long Island (ALI) Seed Fund and the Long Island Emerging Technologies Fund (LIETF) announced initial investments in five Long Island-based biotech and clean energy startups. Four of the five companies each receiving $100,000 are CFB Client companies: Goddard Labs, PolyNova, SynchroPET and Traverse Biosciences. Read the full press release here.

Intensity Therapeutics Awarded CRADA from National Cancer Institute

CFB Client Company, Intensity Therapeutics, Inc. established a cooperative research and development agreement (CRADA), with the National Institute of Health?s National Cancer Institute (NCI) Vaccine Branch. Intensity Therapeutics was awarded the CRADA by the NCI to study the efficacy and mechanism of action of Intensity?s in situ chemovaccination products using in vivo models of cancer. SBU Researchers Developing Drug to Cut Down Growth of Cancer Cells

New research has found that it is possible to cut down the growth of cancer cells at their earliest stages with a new drug.

Research conducted by leading cancer metabolism researchers at Stony Brook University, Paul M. Bingham and Zuzana Zachar, is showing promise in this approach with their clinical investigation of a new class of compounds that disrupt cancer cell mitochondrial metabolism. In collaboration with Cornerstone Pharmaceuticals, Drs. Bingham, Zachar and colleagues at Stony Brook University are evaluating the basic mechanisms of actions behind this class of agents. The relationship with Cornerstone has its roots within Stony Brook’s Center for Biotechnology. Read more here.

Call for Proposals: BioEntrepreneur-in-Residence

The Center for Biotechnology is looking to recruit another BioEntrepreneur-in-Residence (BEIR). BEIRs receive a comprehensive package of incentives to build and lead new bioscience ventures in the Long Island, NY region.

In addition to senior staff support to assist with commercialization strategies, BEIRs will also have access to the resources of Stony Brook University including faculty expertise, core research and engineering facilities, libraries, business incubators, the 245 acre Research Park, and a suite of end-to-end economic development programs.
