Attention Stony Brook University Faculy and Staff: Applications for the second cycle of the President’s Fast Impact Fund (FIF) opened August 3, 2026. Open to all Stony Brook faculty and staff, this special initiative supports immediate-impact projects that can be launched quickly and deliver results within six to ten months.
The FIF provides awards of up to $300,000 focused on low‑investment, high‑reward initiatives that create visible, positive change. Examples of projects that would be considered include specialized equipment or technology acquisitions, pilot programs or proof‑of‑concept initiatives, targeted renovations or seed funding, among other opportunities.
All proposals must include a customized, high-level budget and be endorsed by the relevant vice president or dean with authority to implement the project. Applications for the August cycle will be available beginning August 3 with submissions due Friday, August 21 by 5 pm, ET. Please visit the Fast Impact Fund website for additional information and to submit an application.

In early February, we welcomed leadership from Empire State Development (ESD), including its Division of Science, Technology and Innovation (NYSTAR) and New York Ventures, for a two-day visit focused on applied research, industry collaboration and economic development across New York State.
The visit spotlighted key teams throughout Stony Brook University, including the Center’s role in driving innovation through supporting hundreds of patents, licenses, and commercialization efforts to help translate breakthrough discoveries into real‑world medical and biotechnology applications. As our very own Clinton Rubin remarked, "We are excited by NYS’s commitment to harnessing Stony Brook’s research enterprise for economic impact, and building the life sciences innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem here on campus, on Long Island and in our State.”
We’re excited to share more soon about how our Center is bringing its vision to life by accelerating the path from academic research to marketplace solutions.

Immunovent, a New York City based diagnostic start-up focusing on the commercialization of novel technologies for diagnosing allergies,
was chosen as the "Best of the Best" among previous winners of Mid-Atlantic Bio Angels (MABA)1st Pitch Life Science events in 2014. Seven companies competed for the title of ?Best of the Best?.
Immunovent is developing a platform technology called the Local Antibody Mucosal Brush Diagnostic (LAMB-Dx). It is a needle-free allergy test that works with minute cell samples that are easily and painlessly collected with a soft brush. A proprietary process is then used to detect the specific proteins in the samples that indicate the presence of a food or airborne allergy.
