Attention Stony Brook University Faculy and Staff: Applications for the second cycle of the President’s Fast Impact Fund (FIF) opened August 3, 2026. Open to all Stony Brook faculty and staff, this special initiative supports immediate-impact projects that can be launched quickly and deliver results within six to ten months.
The FIF provides awards of up to $300,000 focused on low‑investment, high‑reward initiatives that create visible, positive change. Examples of projects that would be considered include specialized equipment or technology acquisitions, pilot programs or proof‑of‑concept initiatives, targeted renovations or seed funding, among other opportunities.
All proposals must include a customized, high-level budget and be endorsed by the relevant vice president or dean with authority to implement the project. Applications for the August cycle will be available beginning August 3 with submissions due Friday, August 21 by 5 pm, ET. Please visit the Fast Impact Fund website for additional information and to submit an application.

Stony Brook Medicine’s Science and Research Awareness Series, better known as SARAS, celebrated its 22nd year this summer.n The Center for Biotechnology is a long-term supporter of the event as it speaks to our passion for helping to train the next generation of life sciences professionals.
Founded by Dr. Srinivas Pentyala, a professor and the director of translational research in the Department of Anesthesiology, SARAS is a three-week immersion into healthcare and biomedical research, built and staffed almost entirely by Stony Brook Medicine’s own physicians, nurses, researchers, and administrators. This year 125 high school students were given the opportunity to experience the "full arc of medicine"as Dr. Pentyala noted, and understanding that "the basic science, the translational science, how it is discovered… unless it is discovered or invented by someone, it cannot be translated in a clinic.”

Applications for the Health Innovation Hub: Life Science are open through February 24.
Springboard’s Health Innovation Hub: Life Science is a program for women-led life science and healthcare companies seeking growth funding and connections to experts and strategic partners for product development and expansion. Selected Hub companies are matched with a personal advisory team, tasked with providing a meaningful impact on the company’s next stage of growth. The program, while virtual, engages advisors and investors in a variety of in-person presentation sessions throughout the year and beyond.
Areas of focus for the program include (but are not limited to) drugs, therapeutics, diagnostics, medtech, and medical devices. [post_content] => Two specific funding programs have been designed to help faculty, physicians, surgeons, medical fellows, and post-docs develop their academic innovations toward commercial goals: Feasibility - up $50k/12 months (director costs) and Proof of Concept- up to $100k/12 months (direct cost) . Eligible applicants will be notified if their application is selected to move forward.
