Attention Stony Brook University Faculy and Staff: Applications for the second cycle of the President’s Fast Impact Fund (FIF) opened August 3, 2026. Open to all Stony Brook faculty and staff, this special initiative supports immediate-impact projects that can be launched quickly and deliver results within six to ten months.
The FIF provides awards of up to $300,000 focused on low‑investment, high‑reward initiatives that create visible, positive change. Examples of projects that would be considered include specialized equipment or technology acquisitions, pilot programs or proof‑of‑concept initiatives, targeted renovations or seed funding, among other opportunities.
All proposals must include a customized, high-level budget and be endorsed by the relevant vice president or dean with authority to implement the project. Applications for the August cycle will be available beginning August 3 with submissions due Friday, August 21 by 5 pm, ET. Please visit the Fast Impact Fund website for additional information and to submit an application.

[post_content] => The Center for Biotechnology at Stony Brook University has appointed Andreas Grill as the Center?s third BioEntrepreneur-In-Residence (B-EIR). Mr. Grill brings over twenty years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry to his appointment of B-EIR, having most recently served as the Executive Director of Forest Research Institute for Forest Laboratories, Inc.
Mr. Grill will conduct due diligence to identify a technology or technologies around which he may build a company. As part of the B-EIR program, Mr. Grill will have access to the Center?s business and technology development support staff. Mr. Grill?s diverse and extensive experience in both business and research and development provide him with a unique perspective and advantage when it comes to launching a therapeutic-focused start-up. [post_content] => As a BARDA DRIVe Accelerator, the Center for Biotechnology is pleased to announce that the simplified funding application process, called EZ BAA, is now open. Medical product developers, research teams, and companies offering disruptive solutions to health security threats are invited to submit abstracts beginning today using this simplified EZ BAA process.
Applications accepted through this streamlined process must offer transformative innovation, products and technologies to protect Americans from health security threats. This application process is a business friendly simple abstract.
In-scope priority areas include products and solutions to reduce illness and death from sepsis as part of DRIVe’s Solving Sepsis initiative; technologies and processes to identify infections and exposures to biological and other health threats, as outlined in the Early Notification to Act, Control, and Treat (ENACT) initiative; and tools and techniques to mitigate the damages and loss of life associated with catastrophic events.
Applying is simple:
- Download the application form the DRIVe website.
- Submit a technical abstract no longer than a 2,000 words
- Include a cost proposal of an additional 2,000 words or less.
- Proposed costs should not exceed $749,000.
What happens next:
- Once submitted, DRIVe’s experts will review the application to ensure it is within scope and meets DRIVe criteria.
- As the applicant, you’ll be notified of the review results within 30 days of your submission.
