Applications are now open for the 12th BioREACH Award Program from the Center for Biotechnology, which provides $50,000 in translational research funding for Stony Brook faculty and postdoctoral researchers to generate the evidence needed to advance promising innovations to the next stage of development.
BioREACH funds milestone-driven studies and welcomes biomedical innovations as well as platforms, tools, computational technologies, and other enabling technologies with the potential to contribute to solutions addressing unmet needs in health.

The Center for Biotechnology (CfB) has helped advance some of Stony Brook University’s most impactful biomedical innovations, among them the yeast two-hybrid system, Xiaflex®, ReoPro®, Oracea®, and 3D virtual colonoscopy. The CfB has supported more than 475 faculty-led translational research projects and contributed to 306 license agreements generating $51 million in royalty returns to the University.

[post_content] => On Monday, April 11, 2016 Stony Brook University launched its chapter of the National Academy of Inventors. With the launch, 30 university of faculty members will be inducted into that chapter's Hall of Fame, including Center for Biotechnology Director and Biomedical Engineering Chair, Dr. Clinton Rubin.
The NAI was founded in 2010 at the University of South Florida to recognize and encourage inventors who earn U.S. patents. The organization aims to enhance the visibility of university-based innovations and promote the societal benefits of technological and academic breakthroughs. Stony Brook joins more than 200 other NAI chapter members around the globe that will “foster research that leads to academic inventions and entrepreneurship from faculty and students,” while building “a culture of invention across all campus disciplines,” SBU said in a statement. [post_content] => Immunovent, a New York City based diagnostic start-up focusing on the commercialization of novel technologies for diagnosing allergies, was chosen as the "Best of the Best" among previous winners of Mid-Atlantic Bio Angels (MABA)1st Pitch Life Science events in 2014. Seven companies competed for the title of ?Best of the Best?.
Immunovent is developing a platform technology called the Local Antibody Mucosal Brush Diagnostic (LAMB-Dx). It is a needle-free allergy test that works with minute cell samples that are easily and painlessly collected with a soft brush. A proprietary process is then used to detect the specific proteins in the samples that indicate the presence of a food or airborne allergy.
